Navigating the Change has partnered with Alecia Dawn at YOGAMOTIF to offer everyone a natural remedy for insomnia: Yoga for Bedtime! In this 18-minute video, Alecia takes us through a gentle yoga practice that’s sure to prime you for a restful night. But remember, don’t have sugar and alcohol right before bed! That will be counterproductive.

Alecia Dawn is an arts worker and yoga guide who explores the creative process as an invitation to heal. She believes that creating art and creating life are connected and invests her time in people, projects, and communities that explore these practices. In 2018, she founded YOGAMOTIF, a creative wellness studio that offers art and yoga classes to youth, pregnant people, and the community at large. She makes space to center Black women in healing, and is honored to support the community with a joyful and breath-centered practice.

My yoga journey has not been beneficial to me… at all. π¦
All the docs said with arthritis “movement is key to pain relief and yoga’s low impact moves will help you achieve your goals.”
Whatever.
Fibromyalgia said. “get your butt somewhere and have a seat before you get the flare-up of a lifetime.”
I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve started and stopped because of pain. I have enough mats, pillows, cones, bands, weights, and balls to start my own gym. I even bought a DVD of yoga chair exercises but after three days of workouts, I spent the next 5 days in my recliner with heated rice pads and a bad attitude.
But never count me out! I do like the beginning of Alecia’s video… right up until she gets on the floor. That’s not going to happen. However, I will try this for a few nights and let you know how I fare.
Thanks for the post! π

Iβve found the best thing about yoga is that you donβt have to do all the poses. So if you wanna only do up to the party where she gets on the floorβ¦do you. I do hope it helps though.
Has anyone suggested restorative yoga?

I’m not familiar with restorative yoga.
I’ve done the first nine and a half minutes of this workout three days in a row! (I don’t have an actual bedtime! π ) It is relaxing and I am noticing some “looseness” without the usual pain. YAAY! Thank you!

Restorative yoga really helped me when I was bedridden. The instructor came to the house.

Oh wow! That’s pretty cool. Restorative is mostly on the floor/flat surface, right? So, that worked out well.

Yes. I could do it in bed. Yoga really can be adapted for everyone.

I recently embarked on yoga through an app and found I loved it. I will check this out at bedtime – what a great idea!

I agree. That’s what I like about practicing, in general, it’s up to you…it’s your practice π Let me know what you think.
What’s the name of the app?
